Hi guys, Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but tis not exactly a coding issue and i'm really just looking for some general advice. I'm looking to register a domain name with a company who can also provide ASP.NET if I need it too, this wont be a business site so it does not need 100% uptime - just not to be run by idiots. Price is pretty important too. Any advice? Cheers

You should run a search of the lounge as it has been asked quite a few times before (at least for the hosting part of your question). Several CP'ers will recommend webhost4life.com. I've looked into what they offer, and I'm going to go with them (when my sites are developed to the point that I actually want them hosted)

Do NOT register the domain name with the web host: if the web host goes under you'll have a really hard time getting your domain name. Register the domain name with someone like Network Solutions. I use DiscountAsp.Net as a web host: been excellent so far.

I totally agree with the statement about not registering your domain name with the hosting company. I've had two customers have big problems trying to get the domain name back when they went under. I use WebHost4Life's Semi-Dedi service and it has been excellent. I run of mix of ASP.NET AND PHP apps without any problems.

Thanks for the advice guys, I checked out network solutions - dead cheap names but they wanted $12 for redirecting and $19 for a mailbox, seems a lil expensive for the extra's or am I just being picky? Cheers

They are great, unless you ever miss a payment, forget to renew, or try and transfer away from them.

Just use GoDaddy.com. They have some annoying add-on stuff when you checkout, but the interface is good and renewals are painless.
