I recognize the name, but without checking IMDB can't think of a single thing he's done. Eh, well, i guess i'll manage.
Brokeback Mountain. Unfortunately most of his other work is frivolous tripe (Brothers Grimm etc.) Seems he was manufactured by the industry and only managed to do his own thing a few times in his short life.

I respect him for his role in Brokeback Mountain. Took a lot of guts to go from high school pinup to gay cowboy. The rest of his work that I know was poor though, manufactured industry crap. Otherwise I have no idea what he was like as a person outside his films.

That is sad. Not nice to hear of anyone taking their own life. I thought Brokeback Mountain was superb and he did an amazing job in it. The rest of his work is forgettable though.

Guess we will have to disagree about Brokeback Mountain. I thought it was a superb movie. Took on issues very few others films have and portrayed it in a powerful, stark manner. On another note I just watched Super Bad and laughed my arse off. Stupid but so honest. I cringed a few times thinking back to my teenage years.

Heh, ok. If you ever have the opportunity, watch some of the movies on the cable channel "Lifetime" - you'll see issues ranging from spousal abuse to, um, spousal abuse being portrayed in a powerful, stark manner. ;P

The latter, not the former - i expected it to be a knock-off of 40yov, so skipped it. Worthwhile?
Same style but different topics and laughs. Good entertainment, especially if you watch it with your gf/wife as you'll pick his side and she'll pick her side and the movie will be different for both of you. (Just remember all of these movies are ultimately missable. They aren't great works of art. As entertainment they are good though.)

Same style but different topics and laughs. Good entertainment, especially if you watch it with your gf/wife as you'll pick his side and she'll pick her side and the movie will be different for both of you. (Just remember all of these movies are ultimately missable. They aren't great works of art. As entertainment they are good though.)

Because women don't have the same reaction to two gay men getting it on that many men have to two women getting it on. Men buy lesbian media by the tonne while the only people who buy gay media by the tonne are other gays. Just the way it is, nothing wrong or right about it. A chick flick is usually something that appeals to a stereotyped view of something women find appealing. It reaffirms their beliefs in a shallow, trivial way. Like guys like action flicks because it appeals to our stereotyped view of things we find appealing. It reaffirms our beliefs but in shallow and trivial ways. (Obviously these are generalisations. Brokeback Mountain isn't a chick flick though. I'll fight you naked on a mountain in the Rockies amongst three thousand bleating sheep to prove it. :P)

As a human, I guess his death is no more remarkable than the thousand others that took place on the same day. But as a talent he can and should be mourned. He seemed to have so much going for him and he definitely had provided a little light on the human condition through his art.
