Hi Hans, Consumer Reports rated various AV products last year. The results are located at http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/resource-center/cyber-insecurity/cyber-insecurity-hub.htm[^]. Jeff

Hi Jeff, You need to be a subscriber to view report. :( What is their #1 pick?

            Best wishes, Hans

My bad - I have the printed issue (hence the reason I knew to look for it).

The article stated the free software was not as good as the for-pay programs. Trend Micro took the top spot in Suites, AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, and AntiSpam. Free: Alwil Avast Home Edition (rates around #11 when compared to for-pay). For-Pay: Trend Micro: #1 CheckPoint ZoneAlarm AV: #2 Microsoft OneCare: #3 BitDefender: #4 McAfee: #5 Symantec: #6 Kaspersky Labs: #7 Symantec for Macintosh: #8 F-Secure: #9 CA/eTrust: #10

That's surprising! To not even mention NOD32 says a lot about the quality of their research. My current security set: Comodo firewall + NOD32.

                Best wishes, Hans

I imagine the magazine is very US biased. I don't think they are being capricious with their sample. Do they have a European arm? Jeff
