On-us transactions in India are free, but interbank transactions may be charged currently. But from Apr 2009, all interbank transactions will be free too! Yay! :-D What about your country? I just hope the date on which the new rules are supposed to take effect is a coincidence. :~ :-D

    Cheers, Vikram.

Normally you can claim your transaction-fees back from the ATM by wrapping a chain around it and ripping it out of the wall with a truck. ;)

Transactions through my bank's ATMs and other affiliated bank's ATMs (through agreements, partnership programs, whatever) no fees are incurred. However, anything through JoNet (Like EuroNet only local to Jordan) automatically incurs a charge of 0.5JOD/transaction regardless of the amount with a universal ceiling of withdrawal of 2000JOD (about $2850 US).

It depends. Most of the high street banks don't charge. If you find one of these small cash machines in pubs or leisure centres of such like they will often charge. The machines that do not charge will often have a big notice to tell you that they don't charge. However, just because the bank that runs the ATM does not charge does not mean that your own bank won't charge. Some banks will charge you for using another's ATM machine, however this doesn't happen a lot and its mostly overseas banks that do this.

I only pay per transaction, not a ratio, so I hardly ever draw under R500.

I don't get charged either per transaction or a ratio... I just mean, if I did get a fixed fee it would be annoying as I like to only withdraw as much as I need, which is usually very little. But if I did get charged per transaction, I'd do what you do :)

I recently opened a checking account with charles schwab which has a full refund of atm fees as a feature. Review of how well it works is pending my getting around to changing my direct deposit info at work to actually fund it.
