Yeah, I didn't like the way they had the menu bar and the favorites bar enabled by default, I like IE7s interface because it was very minimal, but they are easy enough to disable. It does seem a little quicker but maybe thats just codeproject behaving it self more ;)

Most people disliked the hidden menu bar in the first IE7. That's why they changed it. For me, in practice I don't use menu bars very often. I find a combination of buttons + keyboard shortcuts more productive. But, I still like having the menu available for some reason.

I have had to put it in to Emulate IE7 mode to make it usable though :/ codeproject was alright but pastebin.ca and hotmail were screwy.

Feels faster, CP seems super snappy, maybe its the raised connection limit that has been upped to 6 now. :)

Is the ridiculous Security settings list-radio-tree control thing in Internet options is still there? I just want to turn off Javascript sometimes. That's J-a-v-a-s-r-i-p-t not A-c-t-i-v-e-s-c-r-i-p-t.

Since IE8 is in web standards compliance mode by default, that sounds like it's more a problem of the website than IE.

Despite being a long time FF fanatic, I actually agree, IE8 is really snappy for me. On my machine, both Yahoo Mail beta (very AJAX-y) and Gmail slow down Firefox; the GUI even stops painting and everything freezes for a moment while loading both of them. But on IE8, it's smooth and zippy. At MIX '08, the IE manager said that the Google GMail team reported a 250% performance gain in IE8's Javascript interpreter, making Gmail noticeable faster. After seeing it in action, I have to agree.

Indeed ... I worded my post incorrectly ;) No doubt most of the masses are going to blame IE for this rather than the sites. Just like they'll say it doesn't pass acid2: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/03/05/why-isn-t-ie8-passing-acid2.aspx[^]

From the link[^]: New and exciting features Activities WebSlices Favorites Bar Automatic Crash Recovery Improved Phishing Filter So, it wouldn't have a download manager, or download-resuming capability? :| To be honest, I don't find a damn thing to be interesting or Exciting in that list. I'll be glad if they stop talking and bring out something actually good.

I don't know. You may have to ask them. :)
