I would choose more descriptive phrases than stupid, and I would aim them squarely at the marketing department. One of the appeals of Linux and all the Penguin stuff is that it's (kinda sorta) free. However, *nix offers an incredibly powerful shell environment that makes it quite appealing as well. Sure, you can find bolt on shells for Windows, but after all these years, why would they not put something more powerful at the C:\> prompt than DOS, something as powerful as *nix? i used to have a copy of MKS for Windows, but that was years ago... it's too expensive for me now. i guess i should try Cygwin.

I'm still dragging around my dead copy of CodeWright. I tried Visual SlickEdit, which is comparble, but they don't give full .NET support (i.e. I still have to toggle to Visual Studio go get the intellisense for the asp:yadayada tags), so there was no point in switching. It's easier to switch girlfriends than it is editors. :)

i really liked vi, back in the day. i still think it's cool, i just don't ever use console windows for editing anymore.

oh god... DOS is an abomination. i still write .BAT files to control builds and i'm still amazed at just how much of a kludge the whole thing is. and the fact that MS hasn't introduced a new command line environment after all this time ? stupid.
Powershell is included in Windows Server 2008, the first Windows to go RTM since Powrshell's RTM.

ah Powershell.... sounds wonderful. too bad MS can't write an installer for it that actually works.

will not install. i get some error about encryption and security policies. messing with gpedit.msc doesn't help.
