They *can*, but I have found with one of the systems I work on (ASP.NET) I found that I was physically unable to rebuild the system after converting to 2008 until I started with a fresh copy of XP and installed VS2008 ON ITS OWN.

It's not the OS you need to worry about... it's your developed systems!!

I run mixed environments but using Virtual PC. Trying to mix the two will only cause you grief with service, etc.

I'm using VC6, VS2005 and VS2008...no problems so far but I admit that I haven't used all the features exhaustively...oh, and I also have C#Express2005 and VBExpress2005...forgot about those :)

Very much. I have the classic Visual Studio 6 [VB 6, InterDEV, VC++], Visual Studio .NET 2003, 2005 and 2008 in my system.

Yes. Last weekend I installed 2005 after 2008 and am happy to report both work fine. Previously, I'd tested installing 2008 after 2005, which also works without incident. And I also have VC6 installed, in both cases. /ravi
