Good that you live in Chicago and not in the Bay Area. I used to work and live in the Bay Area and Man, that place is really really expensive. One have to spent all his money on the rent itself?. Would you believe that?. --------------- Dan Ammasai ---------------

The Internet, whats that? Is it a car?

Hi there ! I'm from Germany, and i'm making about 40K$ a year with 4 years of experience, but living is so expensive here since we got at least the euro, it's so f***ing expensive (1l Gas some 1,10$ and more, (>4$ per Gallon  ), a house (200m²) about 250-300K$....) It's not fun, because most of your money is tax and insurance, wich is a must have (more than 60%...) Uhhh....and than, it's enough for a use car.... Greetings from a strange world !!!

I was making $72k in San Diego two years ago. I'm now making $65k in San Antonio, Texas. However, there is no state income tax, my house only cost $107k (2-story, 2200 sq ft on .6 acre lot), my registration is on $50 for my truck and $40 for my motorcycle, insurance is about the same as San Diego. If I had bought the same house/lot combo in San Diego, we would be talking $300-450k, along with outrageous property taxes. Registration for my truct would STILL be more than $300/year, and my motorcycle registration would still be over $100. I figure by moving, I'm realizing more net income. Oh yeah, my wife is actually making about $45k (she was making $40k in San Diego). Even with what we were making in San Diego, we could not afford to buy a house that wasn't referred to as a "fixer upper", or that was within 40 miles of our jobs. Last item of note - we're paying lower mortgage payments here than we were for rent in San Diego. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends

:suss:  :suss:Contractor rates of £60-70/hour aren't unusual in the banking sector in the City, depending on the project and skillset. I don't live in London - prices are too silly. I live out in Kent, where you can get a nice 4-bed detatched house for about £300k. In London that sort of money will buy you a 1 or 2 bedroomed flat! :omg: However, our house is on the market, and we're moving to Scotland for a much more relaxed pace of life. The earnings will drop by 40% or so, but it'll still be plenty! :-D ________________________ http://www.webreaper.net

Last year I 'took away with me' just under £12,000, which for my age group (I'm still eighteen) is pretty good for this part of the world. The difference is that I get up at 9 am, stop working at 2 pm, and don't have anywhere near the level of expenses most working people have - thanks mum and dad! - so I can blow nearly half of that on non-essentials. This year it has been a little tougher finding gigs, but as I am drawing to the end of a project I started in November there is a chance that I can find future work with the company and it's partners in the coming months. I hope to have enough spare at the end of the year to be able to hire some people to produce artwork and models for my game (programmers != artistic). If I make enough personally to support a pub crawl once a week I will be happy for a few years yet. Bear in mind it is usually my round... One day I may get a propper job with it's own cubicle and little swivelly chair, at the moment though I just want to enjoy myself!
