Just curious how much developers are making around the world?. Please specify your country, Years of experience and the amount you make. Im in India, 10 years exp, Making around US$20,000 --------------- Dan Ammasai ---------------
$65K with 8.5 years experience at the age of 23. The cost of living is lower down here than in other places, so I sitll have some money for the goodies in life. Country: Dallas Texas Experience ? Well that gets complicated. Actually started using "computers" before most of the people on this list was born ( 1965 - US Army Nike/Hercules program ). Amount: Hmmm.. 130000++ Richard Monarchies, aristocracies, and religions....there was never a country where the majority of the people were in their secret hearts loyal to any of these institutions. I was making $72k in San Diego two years ago. I'm now making $65k in San Antonio, Texas. However, there is no state income tax, my house only cost $107k (2-story, 2200 sq ft on .6 acre lot), my registration is on $50 for my truck and $40 for my motorcycle, insurance is about the same as San Diego. If I had bought the same house/lot combo in San Diego, we would be talking $300-450k, along with outrageous property taxes. Registration for my truct would STILL be more than $300/year, and my motorcycle registration would still be over $100. I figure by moving, I'm realizing more net income. Oh yeah, my wife is actually making about $45k (she was making $40k in San Diego). Even with what we were making in San Diego, we could not afford to buy a house that wasn't referred to as a "fixer upper", or that was within 40 miles of our jobs. I was thinking of quitting my programming gig and getting a job as an executioner at a local prison. Sure, it won't pay as well, but the sheer satisfaction of cleaning out the gene pool would be what I consider to be an adequate trade-off (not to mention, it's less stressful than hiding out after doing an armed sweep of the local shopping maul)... More or less 20K€ (and a car with all expenses paid) in Italy after 8yrs C/C++/C#/asp/sql/java/dos/Win16/Win32/WinCE/.net and also a bit of Visual Basic :) I like my work because I work on projects using a lot of different technologies, even if wages here in Italy are not so high (I could get more money also here but I would have to wear a suit and shave every day :)). A chinese proverb say: "A lucky man can't distinguish work from free time", I think I'm lucky :) But I prefer a cuban proverb that states "hombre que trabaja pierde tempo precioso" (more or lesso: "a men who work is losing his precious time"). -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Well I got my first job in the industry at 18, so it's knocking on 6 years for that. I got it because I already had "experience" with development though.
