Why was the post moved?

Did you stop reading before you got to the bit of my reply where i stated as much? (that's another rhetorical question, btw)

I'd like to second Ahmed's question. This is censorship! We would like an explanation from whoever censored this post. Why do you feel you have to censor a post that claims (with justification): 1. The Democrats and Republicans have collaborated to export US jobs to low-wage countries. 2. Despite Democrats' "concern" about working Americans, their presidential candidates haven't proposed withdrawing from NAFTA. 3. Ralph Nader is the only candidate to advocate withdrawing from NAFTA, implementing a single-payer universal health care system, and cutting the huge military budget. 4. The Democrats' and Republicans' funding by, and collaboration with, big corporations is fascist by definition. These are statements of fact! Did someone ask you to censor this post? If so, who? You are violating your own rules!
 Oh Alan - 1 voting because people disagree with you. Shame on you.

Y'know what's fun? Turning the 1 vote 'someone' gave you into a 4.2. :-D

I disagree. Moving it to an obscure section IS censorship. Are you the one who did it? Did someone ask you to? If so, who?
Um, they actually did you a favor. You can't imagine the hits that post is going to get now.

Probably one of the webmasters. Its not censorship, its a matter of placing the right posts in the right forum. You wouldn't accept someone asking in the lounge any programming questions, though lord knows we get those sometimes, more than we'd like even. This is the same thing.

Pete: Mini-me That's Sam's pet name now :D He's a carbon copy off of me :D OT: 1. I seem to have lost the ability to quote. Every time I click on the quote text it tries to submit my post. Weird. 2. I promised myself I won't go make cuckoo posts about Sam, but lookee here, the first chance I get I do just that. <advertising> Check out the gallery on my website on Saturday, it'll have his pics then.</advertising>

Alan's post about Senator Kennedy's letter did not violate the lounge's posting guidelines as far as I can tell. It was
- kid-sister safe
- not a flame war (this one has more to do with responders than the original poster)
- not abusive
- not an ad
- not a programming question
So, Mister Sitemaster, why was the post moved?
People outside the USA probably don't care much about US politics. So discussing it here is kinda bad etiquette. The Soapbox has become (over time) a forum dedicated primarily to US politics - so that's a much better place for that thread. I think the move was perfect!

And a good number of people who post on the Lounge are from these low-wage countries. So maybe they don't want to see pro-Nader posts. In fact I bet most of them have never heard of Nader and it doesn't look very likely that that's going to change :-)

The Code Project is for software developers. The lounge is (meant for) IT related whatever-you-want types of posts. Anything that's liable to cause a flame war belongs in the soapbox. Sex, religion and politics all go in the Soapbox. I want the Lounge to remain a place where we can discuss the IT industry and IT topics, and I want the lounge summary box on the homepage to reflect this. Discussions on stuff like politics get out of hand quickly, are relevant to only a minority of members, and, when they appear on the homepage do not reflect the purpose of The Code Project.

It's not censorship, it's moving the post into the correct forum. It is my job, as operator and founder of this site to ensure that the operation of the site proceeds in the best interest of the majority of the members. We have a long standing rule that anything inflammatory that is likely to result in flame wars (typically your class sex, religion and politics, sometimes at the same time) go in the Soapbox where you can go nuts. The Lounge is for discussions on the IT industry and is a showcase on the software community. It is not a forum for politics. If you don't agree with the way our online community for Software Developers operates you are free to post elsewhere.

Censorship IS a public issue, and SHOULD BE discussed publicly. And there was no "trouble" before the censorship. We are entitled to ask questions.

I guess you define censorship differently to me. Oh, and the dictionary "Action taken to prevent others from having access to a book or information; a public objection to words, subjects and/or information in books, films, and other media with the idea of depriving others from reading or viewing them."
Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++ "also I don't think "TranslateOneToTwoBillion OneHundredAndFortySevenMillion FourHundredAndEightyThreeThousand SixHundredAndFortySeven()" is a very good choice for a function name" - SpacixOne ( offering help to someone who really needed it ) ( spaces added for the benefit of people running at < 1280x1024 )

Nobody is cesoring anybody. However, you don't put porn on the childrens channel. Just as you don't put flame bait in the lounge. There are specific places for each of these things.
