.net is just a MS. Version/rewrite of Java from when Sun and Ms. had a falling out about Names and Procedures, and when Sun Sued Ms. Ms. got mad and wrote there on, as not to be bound by Java and to crush it. as with all MS ideas it borrowed used or stolen. starting from it OS on. if you do not know Bill created his OS when he worked for IBM(i.e.. DOS), but had a Right to use the works. as the courts ruled.

actually the precursors to C# have been around a lot longer than Java and is part of the implementaion inside IE. Back then it was a language called "Cool". The "inventor" of C# (and cool) is the same guy that worked on Delphi at Borland. My understanding is there are many similarities between C# and Delpi. Delphi predates Java by several years. you're just spouting paranoid, anti-microsoft jibberish if java dies, it will be because it deserves to die.

Basically, no new language is developed in a vacuum. They all borrow the "best" parts from those that went before them. It's called progress! Standing on the shoulders on giants.

So basically your job is to take other people's opinions and then sprinkle a whole heap of misunderstanding, innacuracies and plain old stupidity on the top and garnish it with a flourish of stupid. BTW - Bill Gates never worked for IBM. IBM approached Digital Research to produce an operating system - the owner was out flying his plane the day the suits turned up, so they went to see Bill and Paul at Microsoft. MS agreed to create an operating system and went out and bought one (the original QDOS or Quick and Dirty Operating System). Due to a bit of marketing genius, MS was able to sell the OS to any manufacturer who wanted to clone the PC. The rest is history - and I wish it had been my company and not Microsoft that did this, so take your transparent jealousy away. Hie you back to your hick hills.

I agree. There are still plenty of things out there waiting to be invented/thought up. It is just a matter of being the one to think it up

Big response, but what about WordPerfect, being crushed by MS free words. IBM approached Digital Research to produce an operating system. sounds like this was a contract, and seems like IBM would have gained ownership, like when you buy something. must have been a bad contract, and software is not like tangible goods. MS agreed to create an operating system and went out and bought one I use nothing but MS as my OS, I just feel for the little guy, and hate to see anybodt get bullied.

word perfect got crushed because they were several years late with a usable windows version of their software. lotus blundered the same way with their spreadsheet. They created the ultimate financial forcasting program when 99% of spreadsheet users just made lists (which lotus's new spreadsheet sucked at). MS did market research and the rest is history.

Otherwise [Microsoft is] toast in the long term no matter how much money they've got. They would be already if the Linux community didn't have it's head so firmly up it's own command line buffer that it looks like taking 15 years to find the desktop. -- Matthew Faithfull
