I think you will find that the time shown on the phone is set by the user and is not network time. You have to change it like any other clock!

I use AT&T, and it took almost a week for my phone to show the time change.

While this may have been the case with older phones, the new ones have synchronization built in. There is no need to set the date or time manually.
