High price of Visual Studio outside the US

I'm sure this has come up before, but ... It appears that the cost of upgrading to VS 2008 Pro is DOUBLE outside the US -- ouch!! All the UK vendors sell at roughly the same price, so I imagine that Microsoft has given them "guidance". Does anyone know the best place to avoid the squeeze? Also, would there be problem applying a US-obtained upgrade to my UK version? Thanks!
If you have a student card you can get it for FREE!!! I got mine through the OU. DreamSpark[^]

That's just MicroSoft's way of recovering some of the money from the EU fines.

For the US though, they couldnt increase the prie to reflect the fall of the dollar, so they keep that the same too. For the US though, they couldnt increase the prie to reflect the fall of the dollar, so they keep that the same too. But, when a european looks at the current dollar price today, he sees it as bveing a lot cheaper than the euro price.

It's always been that way whatever the strength of the currencies. European taxes suck on electronics, manufactured goods and software. Ah well. Don't use VS and the software we do buy is online and at dollar rates so the pickings are good :-D

Any word on when they're going to give us Server 2008? I did see a reply in a forum from a MS employee that they were going to do it.

Sorry, I have no idea: only what's on the site though I hope they do give us some more goodies. I think that would come with Microsoft Action Pack which is worth buying.

Hellooo dippy...The dollar being halved, which it is, would mean the Brits can buy TWICE as much with there dollar (re: pound) then the US dollar. The price of VS 2008 s/b one half in pounds! ;)

OK, let me make this clear again. Microsoft arent going to sell at a dollar price in europe because they are missing the chance to make money. So they keeop it the same despite the dollars devaluation. When a european then looks at the dollar price today he sees it as far cheaper (when translated into euros) than it was 6 years ago. Get it?
