I think the difference (other than the very important contribution to each situation by the two different individuals themselves) has a lot to do with "national character." Contrary to what "liberal" (i.e. leftist) news outlets always present as fact about Americans, we are not racists and/or other types or closed-minded reactionary bigots. We honestly do tend to see those with whom we interact as individuals first-and-foremost and as members of this or that group far down on the list. At any rate, the more "conservative" the American, the more the above assertion applies. Those of us who are leftists tend to be the opposite: seeing the person first-and-foremost as the local incarnation of some group.

Wow, what an interesting comment, all laced with Left vs Right comparisons. You sound just like one of those "liberals" that like to split people into groups.

Its because America is a country built on the idea of saying one thing but doing something completly different.

It seems like northern Indians are more olive toned than red. The reddish hue I've seen more in southern tribes, but my exposure is limited to only a few groups. How about NATIVE AMERICANS will be Tan Indians and you can be Brown. :-D

When white people can say they are proud to be "white" (not necessarity hating another group--just saying they have pride) and not have the rest of the world up in arms. You can be proud to be Irish, or British, or American. You can be proud to be Asian or Italian. You just can't be proud to be white.

huh? I asked when can we stop calling someone a Native American (or African American or Irish American or Asian American or [Name any ethnicity] American) and start just calling them American? 75%? 50%? 25%? 1%? What does that have to do with being proud of ones race?

True, true. Have you been watching the IPL?

I've been following it via Cricinfo and watching highlights on Youtube. I wish Lee, Ponting and others could have stayed till the finals.

I've seen little bits here and there including Gillies big ton but its hard to get interested when I dont have "my team" to follow. Any idea if Warnies team are still in?
