Apologies for jumping into a conversation lilke this, but alot of this is bollocks. I have faced far less unpleasentness in my latter life than I did when young. Life is easy when you are older, a lot easier. You get to know yourself, know how people tick, dont take yourself or others too seriously, and learn to accept failure, both in you and others. Youth? Screw it. All that agonising over sex, ones appearance, what people think of you. Being told what to do, and worst of all, living an egotistical life. Its a painfull existence, I wouldnt take it back for one second. As for responsibilities, that is just a choice, not a condition. You dont have to be 'old' just because you get older.

I don't mind if you jump in. You've obviously had a different experience than I have. Perhaps it's because I worked in a medical environment where I saw alot of death and suffering. I think age comes with increased responsibility, your mileage may vary but I don't think Ravel is up for mortgage or car payments or taxes or complicated relationships...

Oh no, quite the opposite, just that the scope for self exploration and enjoyment is vastly greater post mid 20's (actually, university is pretty good fun too, so even post 18 life gets a lot more fun. I mean seriously much more fun)

There's very few people can buy a house outright. Renting sucks and living in a box doesn't exactly get your mail delivered. Anyways, I gave him my experience it's good he sees another side.

As you say, it makes it very clear that either there is no one up there in charge, or if there is, he/she/it is utterly incompetent and worthy of total disrespect. Do you have kids yourself? The turnover rate at such institutions is very high Ravel. Not just for physicists but also for the oncologists and other support staff. The stress is extremely high especially for palliative cases (patients that can't be helped but are treated just to relieve the pain and discomfort). I went into the field wanting to contribute to helping people and did much research to that end. In the end I couldn't take it anymore and had to leave. Dealing with sick and terminally ill patients is very hard, especially when they are children. It's difficult because regardless of what you do for them, the outcome is fixed. It's one of the reasons I have such intolerance for some of the posters here - it's difficult to accept that they live while others have not.
