Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 Beta

From that link : If you are running Windows Vista you should make sure you have Vista SP1 installed before trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1 Beta. :( SP1 doesn't show up on my updates and I am too scared to risk running the full SP1 offline installer. Looks like I'll have to skip this one.

I'm still on the fence with this beta....I think I'll wait until the final release this summer. The Expression Blend problems concern me, even though there's an update for that too. That's too many betas/previews in use at once for me... maybe... It's so tempting to play with the new stuff :) Cheers, Mark p.s. Desiree and I made it up to the tulip festival after the summit - the fields were amazing. It was also amazingly cold out there in the wind :)

If it doesn't show up automatically in Windows Update, it is supposed to indicate some hardware or driver incompatibility. So while I could download the SP1 full-package and run it offline, it would be a big risk. I suspect it's my video card driver that might be incompatible with SP1 - but I am not 100% sure of that.

When we went it was quite sunny and warm. But the weekend you went - the flowers must have been in fuller bloom. I bet you took lots of pics :-)

Service Pack?! More like a full add-on and feature overhaul. Looks pretty impressive though. Nice that the .NET 3.5 bootstrappers are finally included.

The thing that actually interests me the most is that clients will be able to download a "small" version of the runtime, i.e. one that's typically about 25MB as opposed to the whopping 135MB (or is it more?) that 3.5 normally installs. Hopefully this will be released by the time I return to do some summer work because I'm looking forward to see if I can use LINQ in the project (to make things easier for me) but I'm guessing the SysAdmin wouldn't be too happy about having to install a 135MB framework on each machine for what is essentially a couple of DLLs...

Is the memory foot print smaller for clients? We are still at 2.0 for the enterprise so I have not looked at 3.5 much. Thanks Dan

I don't know about the memory footprint but all I know is that there's supposed to be a "Client" install of the framework which is basically a 3.5 version of the 2.0 framework. I.e. it excludes all the server-side stuff which cuts down the size quite drastically. I would imagine that the memory footprint won't change that much because you're still dealing with the same stuff (i.e. WPF, WCF and LINQ).

I heared some people have problem with it,but I installed SP1 for vista 32 bit and I dont have any problem until now.
