Hey... I just got 1ed just because I mentioned Macedonia... guess there's some HELL_ASS gays here :) The point is... why bother? Post ratings make no difference... especially when someone rates your post because he can't comprehend it, or can't deal with it.

What is the point of me answering a post in the asp.net forum when all I ever get is a 1 rating, just because users want something that they cant have!!

I had stopped for a while then I started again and now I've stopped because I remembered why I stopped before. It wasn't cos of the votes (who gives a shit) it was because most of the time it feels like I'm doing school work for somebody which I really can't be asked to do or because you never get feedback to tell you if your answer was helpful. I wasn't looking for a back slap just 'yes, it hit the right note' or 'no, it was a dumb answer - perhaps you're the one with the problem'. Either way I also get to learn which is what it should be about.

      me, me, me

Because you're not so shallow that you're answering questions purely for votes?

They're supposed to be... I've heard rumors and legends that greek men exist... but none that act like a man are found to date  You know the joke... Greek men invented sex, but Macedonians told them it can be practiced with women!

Youve missed the point, the whole point of replying to posts is to help other people, when they vote your help 1 out of 5 even if you give them a correct answer you are bound to be a bit annoyed. Its the prinicple more then anything.

Why don’t you people avoid these stupid questions? Let them cry and wait for answers with despair mind. They deserve it. The mean time you can answer to more meaningful questions.

I haven't missed the point. I answer a lot of questions, and the vote I get is totally irrelevant. It doesn't bother me one way or the other what vote I get - the only thing that matters is if I can help or not.

Some of them are good, valid answers. It's just not what the question poster wanted to hear. So they vote down the responder and repost the question.

Well, I'd say it happens to me more than you, and i'd say the answer is that while I appreciate the CP MVP, and I liked being a MS MVP, I do it to help people. When people vote me 1 for telling them the truth, they make themselves look stupid. They don't actually hurt me. I find the voting system frustrating, b/c it's becoming more and more that you get 1s for no good reason ( I get 1s for good answers all the time), but I don't let it get to me, or let it change how I answer, any more than being a CP MVP or MS MVP would cause me to answer more or answer differently.

I think that the voting on programming forums should just be restricted to an accepted answer. Either the person asking the question accepts an answer or not; why should anyone else be voting on that. Replies should be possible only to the person who posted the question. I think unlike the Lounge or SB, there is no merit in having a thread go off into many branches that discuss nothing of value to the person who posted the question.
