:doh: :doh: :doh: I read the title as power outrage policy. :) Several years ago when the lights went out, there were a couple of extra days of holidays that a few people had. But I don't think that applied to any of my electrical friends.

We have a rather large generator which kicks in automatically. That's the good part. The bad part is, the purpose of the generator is to keep our distilled water system running (if it loses power, it becomes contaminated, and cleaning it's a PITA). No extra power for lights, computers, etc.

We have a departmental UPS, and a diesel generator, the minute the power is knocked, the UPS kicks in and within 1 second the generator is started. We also have our on substation!

We have about 50 windows in our office. They probably will force me to wash them. And of course you could just write down your C++ code on the paper or napkin and enter it in computer in the next day. If you are a good artist, you could also make your forms design on the same napkin/back side for the code, front side for the form design, different napkin for header files or partial classes – depends of the language you’re using/.

I discovered that a win2k testbox I'd recently inherited ownership of was plugged into a nonUPS outlet when the power went out during a defrag. :doh: Everything came up normal after power was restored.

We only ever had one power out - I was new to the company and since I had a laptop I continued to work for a couple of hours. When I finally emerged from my tucked away back office I found that everyone else had gone and the place was locked up! Of course I was the subject of much amusement the next day. :)

It basically powers Sales, Accounts, IT and the directors, so we don't lose sales if there's a power outage.

Well, our department uses laptops only, and they are plugged into a protected circuit, so no brownouts, spikes, etc. Our IT-department, however, has about 250 machines to shut down, including 2 IBM zSeries and other monsters. We also have our own substation, which is conveniently located next to the building housing the diesel genny. However, the diesel only powers the IT-department, all others have to wait for power to be restored. And the workshop guys are usually sent home for the day.

Our policy is to wait 30 minutes at work to see if the power comes back on. The server admins have to start shutting down the servers (on UPS) at 25 minutes. The stairwell lights only have 20 minutes battery. :doh:
