The Roadrunner[^] can perform 1.026 quadrillion calculations per second and consumes roughly three megawatts of power. Programmers have to figure out how to keep all of the 116,640 processor cores in the machine occupied simultaneously in order for it to run effectively. All they have to do is run Vista.

So the creationist says: Everything must have a designer. God designed everything. I say: Why is God the only exception? Why not make the "designs" (like man) exceptions and make God a creation of man?

They claimed it was named after the state bird of New Mexico. Bull[^]. I'd be willing to bet the thing has an "ACME Corporation" sticker on the side :-D.

What a waste of money. It is a good PR stunt for those who believe in BIG Government.

I removed the round power button from the front of my HP computer and installed a cigarette lighter there. It's not high speed or anything, just a normal one. My ashtray sits in the top CD tray. Now I just need to find room for a cooler. My software turns into to hardware.

The article has an interesting section:

To put the performance of the machine in perspective, Thomas D'Agostino, the administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, said that if all six billion people on earth used hand calculators and performed calculations 24 hours a day and seven days a week, it would take them 46 years to do what the Roadrunner can in one day.

WTF? Why in the world did they find it necessary to include a statement to "put it in perspective", that doesn't? Wouldn't it make more sense to say, "If these calculations were running on the computer I typed this up on (x calculations per second), it would take it y years to do the calculations the Roadrunner can do in a day"? That would put it in perspective. Plus, it would give the writer of the article ammunition to go to his boss and say "Hey, I've got a really slow computer. Can I get a new one?" And then he could host a few simultaneous LAN parties on just the one computer.
