Not so Soapbox, internet censorship and the FCC
-
I have pretty much be ignoring the FCC spectrum auction until I read that part of the frequency allocation must be used to provide free wireless broadband. Great I thought, and then I read on further, the "free wireless broadband" must be censored to protect the children? Remember what I said about anything that requires the abutment to protect the children. Now it seems the government has finally found a good way to mandate censorship on the internet. Oh, well, I guess it was a fun fad while it lasted.

When it comes for free, the amount of reckless usage for illegal purposes increases. To protect the citizens and also to consere resources, the administration ought to intervene and prove their responsibility.

All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts... --William ShakespeareI think you may be confusing the American way of life with some other way of life. Of course, in today's liberal society those silly moral realities the founding father's fought for are so easily dismissed my the masses for an inkling of supposed security. I secretly laugh and cry on the inside when people today mention, off-handedly how the founding fathers could not comprehend today's world. Yet, Ben Franklin did say, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". (Yes, I know my post is completely American centric but my comment was directed from the FCC attempting to censor the internet. And for those that will say it will never happen, look at cable television. FCC only censors the network TV yet cable self-regulates for fear of a potential fine)

Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. -- Ernest HemingwayI agree with you partially. But when it is uncensored watch-free Internet, how do you guys plan to tackle the following: 1) Child Abuse (like Child Pornography) 2) Financial Cheatings (like Credit Card Felony) 3) Terror networks using Internet as a vehicle for communication 4) Any other form of Cybercrime that comes under the sun

In the US there are laws on the books for all of these things, and none of them require a Department of Government Censorship. But if you want one in your own country, then go for it. Oh, and take it to the Soapbox.

All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts... --William ShakespeareIt used to be an important principle over here that it was more important for the crime to be illegal than the implement of the crime. Since our government is based on the imperfections of men a system which allows more freedom will always be better than one that allows less. Anything else can create a system in which an abuse of the system is worse than the crimes the system is purported to protect.

isn't this censorship specific and limited to a free public use wireless? and if so, i fail to see how the government is censoring the intertnet by limiting a free public wifi. and it is probably a waste of your time to explain it to me.[^]

Do some research into the Cable television companies self-censoring for fear of bringing FCC fines.
