Death Senatnce

And why wasting all the time at all that court cr.., why not just shoot the bastard where he/she stands?. "It could have been worse, it could have been ME!" -Rincewind
Nice suggestion, but it could become impactibele, due to furnidhing in the courthouse and bystanders who could get caught in the cross fire. Possibly the criminal could be taken to a sports venue, where a large group of the communit could participate in seeing the state || peoples justice being carried out. Regardz Colin J Davies

Wouldn't it be better when an individaul was found guily of a capily crime that they were led straight out the back of the courthouse and wired up ? Are the leagl hurdles to doing this so great ? Regardz Colin J Davies

it would probably be a good idea if the legal system was infallible. If not you might as well just kill anyone who is suspected of a capital crime, to save time. and this all makes the assumption that people believe that a death sentance is ever justifiable -- Help me! well, while GWB was governer of Texas he signed 122 death warrants. 25% of those on appeal were found to be completely innocent. 90% of those convicted were black. A bit late to say sorry X| Elaine :rose: Would you like to meet my teddybear ?

Well, they tried that in Afghanistan in football stadiums, but US bombed the managers and some other foreigners, possibly to avoid having to buy the patent. "It could have been worse, it could have been ME!" -Rincewind

Better still, they should be gene typed and used as trandplant material. Roger Allen Sonork 100.10016 If I had a quote, it would be a very good one.
Larry Niven has written a fair bit on this scenario in his "Known Space" series - most notably in "A Gift From Earth". It's very chilling stuff, and I for one pray it never happens. Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

This actually happens to be a fact in China. "It could have been worse, it could have been ME!" -Rincewind

- Protection from what? Zee Germans?Unless you are suggesting that black people are criminals by nature, it would be fairly safe to deduct that: A: There are quite a few racist judges in Texas, and if racism is the cause of the judgement then there has to be a lot of innocent people among the victims. B: There is not equal opportunities for everyone in Texas, and then it might be a better solution to implement this instead of putting the outcome to sleep forever. - Protection from what? Zee Germans?I remember seeing a programme about this. The point was that if you were black you were 50%* more likely to be given a death sentence than if you were white. So it seemed a little bit biased. * I don't remember the exact statistic, so I made this one up, their all lies anyway Roger Allen Sonork 100.10016 If I had a quote, it would be a very good one.

- Protection from what? Zee Germans?Ugh... It is a combination of things. 1. It might not be politically correct, but right now crime is a huge problem with blacks. 2. Money makes a huge difference in quality of defense. This is really one of the most broken elements. (Which is why I get pissed off with the "the system is racist" people because that ignores a huge problem that we are more likely to have a chance of fixing.) 3. Racist system. It happens. Probably more that we would like to think. But it happens a lot less that others would like to think. People who don't want to admit #1 is true, try to say #3 and #2 are true. People who don't want to admit #3 is true, try to blame #1 and #2. I am sure there are a fair number of good sources WITHOUT political agendas that can give a good solid breakdown of the numbers. But to just say that the system is racist based on a single percentages is just pure ignorance. Tim Smith "Programmers are always surrounded by complexity; we can not avoid it... If our basic tool, the language in which we design and code our programs, is also complicated, the language itself becomes part of the problem rather that part of the solution." Of course, as there are no innocents on death row - Judges and Juries are expempt from the clause in human design: "humans make mistakes". I'd bet I, and I am not a laywer, could probably get most of you convicted for the rape of a five year old girl if I used some nice emotive words in my closing speech. :(
