Usenet Client
-
Hello all. I've been member of some Usenet groups (comp.lang.c++, microsoft.public.es.csharp, etc). So far, I've used Google Groups, but now I want to get a client or so, instead of using the RSS feeds. Can anyone recommend me a good client for it?

I've always considered Agent (not free) (http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php[^]) to be the best, but there are a number of ways to read/post on newsgroups.
Best wishes, Hans

I really like Thunderbird[^]. I've used it for a while. It's free, lightweight and simple.

This one seems nice, and it's not expensive. I'll give it a try, thanks!

Ho! I never knew that Thunderbird had such service. I had it installed four months ago. Thanks!

I currently use Thunderbird for the groups at my work. "buy sell", "advice request discuss" its a huge organization so having these internally make sense i have a question.... i haven't read the rfc about how nntp protocol works but i'm hoping someone here can distill how the following works. if i want to keep a local copy on my own machine... similar to rss feeds for google and the likes... ???? does it work like a distribution list where you tell comp.lang.c++ to send a copy of the message to your mailbox. decentralized after initial messages are dispatched. or does it work like http where x clients connect to the an ip that has comp.lang.c++ .. meaning they have to provide there own load balancing to handle the clients .. if the group grows. ???? - lm
