Hello, I'm wondering one thing. Let's say there is a link called http://www.paypal.com in my gmail. If I click this link from my mail, it will show like http://www.google.com/gwt//n?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.paypal.com in new window. So, it's like showing the page from paypal site under Google domain. So, it is more like hacking my password or something. Do you have any idea about that?

It's a scam e-mail - if you click on the link it takes you to a site that looks like paypal, but captures your login information or credit card information and sends it to a crook (who then emptys the account or goes on a shopping spree). The crooks send out millions of these messages in hopes that a few actually have accounts and fall for the scam. The scams also use eBay or large banks as the subject of the messages. Most don't even try to obscure the fake links anymore.

yes. but they can't re-write the main domain name, right? I believe that google.com/gwt has something. maybe, they are experiencing something.

I know about scam e-mail. but what i was thinking is that why Google is doing like that .. I think they are testing something. what is behind google.com/gwt For example: http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=http%3A%2F%2Fcodeproject.com[^]

Yes. I think there are a few "fake "mails like that. but it's different domains... but now, it's from Google. Why?

According to an error message when toying with the URL, it seems to be a service to format regular web pages for mobile phones. So if that's really the entire URL, it's not a phishing attack, unless someone took ownership of a google address or redirect, or someone inside google is helping the attack. (unlikely)

The last few weeks, I literally had a ton of phishing mails about my paypal account being wrong. Some were so well made that the URL almost read paypal.com, with some fancy additional characters (sort of blankspaces, or payipal.com, or...). Some pushed it so far to bring some warnings about phishing on their very fake site :~ Simply X|.

The good old kludge I use is that any unsolicited emails directing me to payment sites, bank sites etc get marked as spam. Alternatively I follow the link and enter some rather fruity user name and password just to waste the phisher's time (which is kinda stoopid as it alerts them to my email address being active if the link is sophisticated enough!).

It could be that PayPal's using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) to massage their content. /ravi

It looks like an internal google command to open a new window. This used to work: www.codeproject.com[^]
