The power company announced a planned outage on the radio for tonight at midnight. Thank Bog that it's finally dropped below 100°F! It's 95, actually, at 11:22PM. I've got the air conditioning set on 'meat storage' until the lights go out, but I sincerely hope that the outage doesn't last too long. People start dying here when the power is out too long, but I think I'll be okay. The only real problem I foresee is the clock I depend on to wake me in the morning. It has a battery, but only to keep time; the battery doesn't power the alarm. Since this could turn out to be a recurring problem, does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable, loud travel alarm clock that doesn't care about such things?

See Oregon Scientific RM926-G. It is a nice travel alarm clock with 2 alarms, backlight, powered with 2 LR03 batteries that last around 4 month. The feature I prefer is that you do not have to adjust time as it is dual band something... I have been using it for 4 month and I am really happy with it. Althought batteries are dying it is still on time. It 's not waterproof, but after accidentaly pourring coffee on it, I could open it, wash it and it was working nicely again. Only drawback is it's size and shape. They could have made it smaller, I think.

The model you refer to probably is "radio-controlled". Which means, you'll have to check whether your region is covered first. And if it is, on which frequency. And if you know the frequency, you'll have to check the protocol... Seriously, many radio-controlled-clocks in Europe are fed by the German time radio station near Frankfurt, which covers a radius of 1000-1500km, and up to 3000km under certain circumstances. I've had a clock suddenly readjust its time in Sofia one day.
