Someone please tell me where to go...

I need to post a question but can't decide which is the best forum. While it's not a programming question, I don't think the Lounge is appropriate. Without actually posting the question, which is somewhat lengthy, it has to do with a problem that happens after installing software. (This software is one of my company's products, our code and installers.) One kind of installer causes the problem, another kind does not. Unfortunately we want to use the trouble-making installer. I'm considering these forums: Operating Systems/SysAdmin - seems most appropriate at this point Visual Studio - one of the installers is created by VS2005 C# - the software is written in C# but the question's not really related Any guidance or suggestions are welcome. And no, it's not URGENTZ. So could someone please tell me where to go...? Thankyouverymuch.

I suggest the Operating Systems/Sysadmins forum even though that stuff is more directly related to actual OS issues...

How about the forum for the installer company software?

Thanks, Mustafa. That's what I'm thinking as well. My only hesitation there is that it's not the most active forum. Oh well, it's not URGENTZ after all.

Now if only there was a place to ask general questions :)
xacc.ide - now with TabsToSpaces support
IronScheme - 1.0 alpha 4a out now (29 May 2008)Yeah, that would be really cool. I'll just head over the suggestions forum.... Oh, wait. What's this? "General Discussions." I'll add that to my list. Thanks, leppie.

The installer that's causing me the problem, also the one I want to use, is the one produced by VS2005. I suppose I could try to find a forum at MSDN but that would almost be a last resort. Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't really considered it until now. :)

I suggest picking up "The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer[^]", by Phil Wilson. He explains what the runtime is doing, with reference to how VS sets up your installer.

Pick the one with the highest amount of traffic imho.

There was a post here the other day about why windows installer takes so long now. It was quite the eye opener. Anyone remember the post?

An excellent suggestion, I have a copy on order! I'm sure it will be valuable for other changes we need to make to our installers. Thanks very much, Mike.

That's a good point to consider. Let's see..., O.K. The Lounge it is!

...after all, we could use some fun. Nothing like sharp, witty retorts, and sarcastic posts. Great fun for posters and readers alike.
Thanks Abu. Although I'd like to be part of the great fun (at my expense) I'm just too cowardly to not follow proper protocol. (Oh no, I bet I just lost man points.) But I must admit, the Lounge does get a lot of traffic. Hmmm.

I decided to try my luck in the Operating Systems/SysAdmin forum. It's bound to be less fun than the Lounge would have been, but that's life. Post-installation problem[^] Thanks again to everyone for their input.

Am I the only person who sees you name and conjures up an image that is half giant teddy bear and half saber tooth tiger?

Thanks! :) Probably you are the only one who conjures up that image. Guess we'd have to take a poll to find out.
