Doesn’t certification influence salary increase?
Wisdom is often meant as the ability and desire to make choices that can gain approval in a long-term examination by many people.
Very rarely. If a company truely values certifications, they either requier them, or at least will shell out money for you to take them. Most companies gloss over certs wince they don't actually prove you can do anything beyond a test. Hard code and succesful projects are what they mainly look at.

Only with incompetent managers who can't tell the difference between what you've actually produced and what's on a piece of paper.

I do mostly agree with the other posters about the low value of MS certs, BUT it's often high level HR people that filter CVs. And, to them, having several certs is a good thing. So, certs may get you the interview, but *real* knowledge will probably get you the job.

I have never done any certification and WON'T do any. They are just an awful waste of time and money. If you have the skill, you don't need anything else. At least that's been my experience.

clause 312.1.1.4b in the MS MVP Code of conduct clearly states "Thou shall not bring shame upon thine over priced certificate that the almighty(MS) provides to the disciples" i call for 50 lashes with the cane whip of blasphemy at dawn. :-\

 Good catch there. My opinion was in general about any certification. Talking about the lashes, I'm just munching on a plate of sinful samosas. :-\

Hi I have finally reached a stage in my career where i want to attain respect and confidence at my job. I have 3 years expr using c# i mainly deal with asp.net 2.0 and slowly working with 3.5 once in a while. My confusion is what exam should i go for ? MCTS ? MCP ? MCSD ? Can some please help me decide, Thanks in advance

You don't "attain respect" you earn it, and there's no time limit; could take a life time, or maybe never. Confidence is like respect, you have to work hard at it, try to be good (best) at what you do. Work on your short comings. If you do something at work and feel later like you might have done it different, or put more into it, then use that to make yourself do it better next time. Pretty soon your confidence will grow. But again, there's no time limit or point where you suddenly say "Hey, I'm confident now!" Sounds like you got a good start on both, but don't think for a moment that exams/certifications/titles will earn you either. Good luck.

Hi Thank you all for a very informative response! From the noise generated I guess spending more time gaining experience is all I need to get though it, in the mean time I will build up a portfolio with products I have build in my time on this earth, that will be my road map and will bring not only confidence but satisfaction. Thank You People :)

The education system and exams are to prove how academically clever you are so that when a company employs you they can get an idea of your intellect. You could be one of the best developers and still only be a C Grade student. So like one of the previous posts said. Education gets you the ticket to the interview, experience is the ticket to getting the job

So the original question remains... Which Microsoft Developer certification is best to help get you that "ticket" into the interview for a C# developer position? My problem: I'm pretty sure I "need" a certification, at least to top off my resume. I would be considered a senior-level developer with 20+ years experience except I got out mainstream development for a bit too long. My last few jobs were in QA, Management, and finally as lead engineer and CTO of a small start-up. When they closed up shop, I did some contracting work in IT. I want desperately to get back into software development in a larger corporate environment my lack of concrete recent experience doesn't get me past the keyword counters in human resources. My middle tier development skills are top notch but my recent skills in all the buzzword areas are self-taught and don't really show up on my resume as "recent experience." I interview extremely well and would make a pretty impressive candidate for a large-range of jobs but I'm looking for some sort of "stamp of approval" just to get me in the door again.

Start with 70-536, then decide which decipline (Web, Win, Enterprise) you wish to persue.
