Lazy is not synonymous with Idiot. I am lazy too, I try to cut corners where ever I can. But that does not make me an idiot? will it. If you are accepting all defaults including your ID "Member 4450649", then that speaks a volume about you. The only place, I do it such thing is, where I know I will not be back again. There are sights that force you to create an ID just for the slightest thing you want to do. If there is such info I care to see, I create a *dummy* account to access the site, never remember what I even choose for ID, never post anything. Hey Chris, change the default to "Idiotsville", will ya?

You want to restrict the forum to one member per country? Isn’t this a little extreme measure?

Most *bugs* can be classified under "Stupid User* category. I don't see this as a bug. What else do you want CP forum to do for you? I think cp forum should assist in the magic pill research for idiocity. :sigh:

check out this one, It's about good UI design... ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuELwq2ThJE This video is really too long but it had a few good points that are obvious, 1) The user should not have to DO anything to get what they want. 2) The user should not have to SEE anything except what they want to see. 3) The user should not have to learn anything.

Because they didn't change thier ID??? People who make rash assumptions can also be classified in this group, IMHO. I left my ID "Member 123456" (whatever it was) and other defaults on purpose for the longest time, not out of laziness or ignorance or whatever, but for a good, personal reason. Can't speak for everyone though, but I'm also not assuming that everyone fits into the same Volume you're referring to. :)

I noticed a few CP members who could barely write in English (I am not a native speaker myself) and asked stupid questions either in the Lounge or in the other forums. When I examined their profiles it said they were from the US. Yeah, right...

Nationality? There's no mention of nationality anywhere. There's the location in each user's profile, but location does not require one be of that nation's nationality, given that the general its actually true. I'm a Jordanian-Canadian residing in Jordan, but I don't feel at home here and actually consider myself an expat.

Give me one valid reason to accept "all" defaults. The only exception there to it is this. If you are accepting "all" system generated defaults then that speaks volume about you. Give me a break, you may not want to reveal your "true" identity, but at least change "some" that personalize your account without revealing your identity. Failing to do so will put you in that category.

I am from the USA. New Mexico to be precise. I also speak only one language, English, to which my High School English teacher would argue that I don't even speak one. :)

Many newbies wait for more than their second post before informing all and sundry of the problems they and they alone have discovered in their 4 hours as a member. Oh, by the way, there's a forum for bug reports and suggestions, but I guess you are too lazy to find it.

so keeping the default values makes me an idiot. I am happy to be an idiot in that case :). Anyway my point was people select their country as USA not because they want hide their nationality... Just because it is the default value

There are a lot of people here (U.S.) that don't know English...and some that are lacking in intelligence so it might not be a language problem at all.

I don't know, I was subconsciously expecting native speakers to be better than me... When I think about it now, you'd find illiterates in every country. Perhaps I am more struck by it because English is not my mother language, so if I see someone else speaking like that it must be the worst level possible.

I think the main reason behind country = USA in profile is that's the default one when you create a profile (It's not compulsory to change it while creating a profile). And most people (who are lazy like me) skip while creating the profile :D

You also skipped the username field apparently...

 An interesting option indeed. Seriously though, a required field with a default blank option would do. I wonder if we would still see so many "Americans" because they would be now explicitly selecting USA?

Nationality? There's no mention of nationality anywhere. There's the location in each user's profile, but location does not require one be of that nation's nationality, given that the general its actually true. I'm a Jordanian-Canadian residing in Jordan, but I don't feel at home here and actually consider myself an expat.

You are absolutely right. I didn't think about it that way. Still, probably a majority of users are of the same nationality as indicated by their location, with the exception of "Americans" who never were to the United States. ;)
