At my previous company, even the upper management wore Hawaiian shirts and shorts on Fridays. Here we're more formal. Although they are considering my request for Camel-Toe Fridays. It's slightly more reserved than Casual Sex Fridays[^].

I assume some or most places have a causal day typically friday, here its every friday, but we have the normal business casual dress code the rest of the time. Personally i find my normal clothes just as comfortable as the stuff i'd wear on a causal day but thats not the point. Here causal means, nice t shirt(nothing offensive) or other kind of shirt, nice jeans(no large noticable holes or stains) they dont have to be new just not all torn up. Recently a lot of people have been wearing shorts..jean, cargo, kahki(sp?) and sandals, not normal sandals those cheap foam and plastic "flip flop" types you see on the beach or around a pool. some people thought it was inappropiate and said no "flip flops" or shorts on casual day(which i think makes sense as it is an office and we randomly(not often but we never know when) have customers and vendors coming through. and people started complaining that its not casual day if they have to think about what to wear. i was just wondering what you all thought. i personally dont care about casual day, if i'm working in the cieling, under desks(all day), or down at the colo i wear jeans and a t shirt, any other time i wear normal polo shirt and slacks, and nice polished boots(ankle problems) am i(and others) wierd in thinking that you should still look somewhat presentable on causal day?

I think that those "bad apples" will spoil the entire tree for everyone else. I've seen casual Friday go away many times in the past because inconsiderate employees take it upon themselves to go too far. The problem could be avoided if those in violation were told of such the first time they violated the dress code. It seems that management waits until a bunch of folks start doing it, and then everyone gets "punished."

Yes. Casual day should be pretty relaxed but not too relaxed, and keep a degree of professionalism in the office.

I wore chainmail once. Over a white t-shirt and jeans. Don't recall any complaints.

Remember if you dress inappropriately you will get in trouble but always dressing professional will yield great rewards. At a lot of places I go to upper management does not dress casual on casual day. So if you wanted to make a best guess ... where what the CEO wears on casual day.

Hock up with your local SCA or RenFaire people. They make it for costuming purposes. And I'd tend to agree about the comfort factor if not wearing a gambeson underneath.

Where I used to work you could wear "sandals" any day of the week. I have given rants here before that if you have mangled toes, I don't care if you got a pedicure--no one wants to see that crap. There were several guys who wore flip-flops with khakis. I think flip-flops is the equivalent of no shoes at all and should be banned in public places. We could not wear shorts, but girls could wear capris. Last year Bermuda shorts, which are just long shorts that go to the knee, became popular. Some women were calling them capris. We also had a problem of some women wearing too small a bra and the back fat rolls showing, or wearing the cotton casuals and seeing major granny panty lines. Where my hubby works, he has to pay a fee that goes to charity to wear jeans on Friday, but the shirts they wear on Friday have to have the company logo. I've seen the Friday jeans thing/give money to charity thing more and more which I don't agree with because I feel that I should be able to choose the charity I want to donate to. If I show I gave $5 to the Humane Society rather than the United Way, I feel that I should still receive the same benefit of wearing jeans.

But not if the company is giving you something in return. If you were just outright donating money to a charity, then yes, you should have a say in where it goes.

CEO wears jeans or slacks, anda button down shirt w/ various patterns on it..typically flanelesque, only a suit or nice white shirt when someone is coming in. oh well. i have been having fun asking people what they think and watching them go on a rant in areas where important people can hear them... I agree with lecky in that flip flops should be ban in most places..they're good for 2 things..goin to the shower house when camping or at a gym, and on the beach. and i've seen people go through the mall and restaurants with shoes that look like they've done both rather recently.

It's a billion degrees in Southern California. I wear sandals during the summer. But we don't have customers coming through here to worry about.

Here in the music industry ( ) there really isn't a "dress code" - other than no wife-beaters and no spaghetti straps, be clean and don't smell. Heck, sometimes I don't shave from one week to the next. Every day is casual day. The businessmans tie is a symbolic leash, and I for one will never wear one again.

One of my brothers made it for use playing paintball. He... got kinda carried away; it was fully sleeved galvanized iron and weighed around 40lbs.

Eh... If my co-workers are staring at my feet while we're talking, we have more serious problems than what i'm wearing on them. I have wide, flat feet. I can find hiking boots that fit, athletic shoes that fit, and sandals that fit. After wearing "dress shoes" for a few years, and dealing with the resulting pain and foot deformation, i switched to wearing loafers in the office and sandals at home (with waterproofed loafers for the winter both places). I don't do pedicures, but will occasionally trim my toenails. Don't look if it offends you.

Casual all the time, but I don't like jeans and t-shirts, so usually a hawaiian shirt and Dockers. "Walking shorts" are allowed, so I avail myself much of the year. I try to wear a hawaiian shirt with the company color predominant when I have to go to corporate headquarters. ... Of course now they've asked that I work from home...

I normally wear shorts and a tee-shirt, since wearing jeans has been painful ever since the surgery. On casual day, though, I switch to Speedos and a raccoon-skin cap, and trade in my sneakers for roller-blades.
