China Cheated

It seems that two of the three Chinese female gymnasts are not old enough to legally compete in the 2008 games, but China doctored the evidence and nobody wants to piss off the host country by calling them out on it. Personally, I think the minimum age for all competitors should be 18 by June 30 of the Olympic year (for Winder Olympics, the minimum age month would be January 31 of the Olympic year.

Actually while watching last night, they did mention that the Chinese gymnasts are hand picked at age 3.

In principle I agree with you, but that is not what happens out there.

what rules? nowadays rules only apply to the receiving end. I was listening to the radio about olympic doping. An official was saying they expect to catch between 20-30 athletes :omg: :wtf: So, the athletes and their respective country don't know about this? Sport has long lost its value and it turned to Sport = Business. I have no problem making business of sports, but first and foremost the spirit of sport needs to be there.

more likely some think they're clever enough to get away with it, but won't.

If I looked that good, I wouldn't be confused at all, and I sure as hell wouldn't be a programmer.

I wouldn't say that. The final scores weren't more than 0.5 points different were they? (I can't find the scores on the net because everyone's talking about the age thing.) [EDIT] I finally found the scores - 2.375 points separated China and USA. That's not even "spanked", much less having your ass handed to you...

I'm complaining about cheating. I don't care about the gymnasts' quality of life. However, I have observed a notably well-fed appearance in the USA squad. :)

I don't think it should matter how old a competitor is. If they're good enough to take on the best in the world, give them a shot. I understand how gymnastics could be an exception as the increased flexibility you have when you're younger could be advantageous.
It matters in this sport. Its much easier to do the tricks when you are only 60 pounds.
-
Anyone who saw them can conclude easily that these Girls were not 16. I am wondering why should is there an age restriction in the first place? I was not aware of it until I read your post.

Because in this sport if your tiny and only weigh 60 pounds its easier to do things like flips and twists. The do a lot of that. Also its much easier to do bars.

"...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001There is a minimum age in Gymnastics because doing all those twists and flips not to mention holding on to the bar is much easier if you are 60 pounds. Your body will flip faster because you can get into a tighter ball and thier isn't as much weight to hold onto on the bar. Its physics. The IRC has known about this for a month and has choosen to turn a blind eye to it. Not to take away anything from the Chinise. They didn't mess up when the US did. But at this level of the sport being smaller makes thing much easier so I would call last night a level playing field. I would revoke the Gold given to the Chinise but I wouldn't becuase they did cheat. But I wouldn't give it to the US because they did actually screw up.
