Well, here we are, sitting here running on a portable alternator (yeah, I know, everyone else calls them generators, but that's not what they really are) after Tropical Storm Fay hit SW Florida. It was really nothing more than some wind and a lot of rain here, and the wind was not even that high. Still, as usual, we seem to be some of the first ones to lose our commercial power, and the last ones to get it restored. I bet the Über-rich people that live down on Gordon Drive, right by the beach (here in Naples, FL) have all of their power restored. :sigh: Oh well, at least some of our stuff works (but not Air Conditioning :(). My alternator is not that big, unfortunately (have to buy what you can afford). Paradise, my eye!

I spend many nights this summer in the basement because of tornado warnings so I feel your pain. We lose our power every time there is a major storm. Since last time it was 6 hours long (overnight) we've decided to get a "portable alternator" as soon as possible. :-D

That's a tough spot to be in. I had to work in the back of my van for a couple days once while my electricity was out. At least I could run the AC. I can't work well in the heat. Sweat dripping down my face onto the keyboard just doesn't work for me. This is the only algorithm I can come up with considering that heat: uber-rich out of town + No electricity/alarm systems = POOL PARTY on Gordon Drive! :cool:
