What will make you sure ? You've already seen that it's well able to wind itself back if something fails, isn't that reason enough to try it ?

No idea. But for some reason it isn't listed on Windows Update (is it supposed to?), which means I'd have to download the whole update package rather than let Windows Update do a partial install of the parts that I need to be upgraded, and I'd rather not risk the stability of my main development environment :sigh: I also heard that it completely scr*wed up some Vista installations so I can't be certain :( Regards, --Perspx

Message I received after a reboot after downloading updates to Vista - at least Windows Update was decent enough to "revert changes" and not completely mess up my system :) Still not going to install SP1.. (yet?) Regards, --Perspx

Never believe rumours, esp anti MS ones. Instead, ask in a place full of IT professionals you trust ( do you know of such a place ? ). I don't like Vista, but I'd be happy to run SP1 if I was using it anywhere. I know that Vista has install points that I am sure would restore my PC if it failed. Then, I do have 6 computers or something, at least 4 are set up with all my source code and dev tools.

Not that it may help, but many of us are running SP1 here, those of us Vista folks that is. You'll find many people who hate Vista for reasons they have tried and failed and been hurt (quite understandable), and those who repeat what they hear about Vista. Don't go down the road of the latter. If you have reason to be concerned because you are currently stable on Vista, then wait until you can backup your machine properly and then try it. But don't fear it based on rumors. My system was not running stable, SP1 stabilizes some of the higher memory based systems among other changes/fixes as well. So yes, it was installed right away. on one computer, the other came as part of the OS. I have installed SP1 on two laptops without problems, in fact it did actually clean up some minor issues I was having. I converted to Vista for the most part, for the rest I run virtual machines. To me Vista is just another OS, I am glad they caught up with technology, but it is still just another OS.

Every Windows SP screws up some installations if you're unlucky enough (it's happened to me once). But eventually you have to bite the bullet. Just make sure you back up everything first.
