For Indians planning to buy an iPhone
-
Article : What rivals have that iPhone doesn't[^] I did buy an iPhone, but I got it cheap for 199 bucks. In India, it's four times more at $800+ (for the 8 GB version). Also in the US, outside of some Blackberries and Smartphones, there are not that many good phones (like the high end Nokia mentioned in the articles) provided by the phone services. So since I wanted a phone that would double up as a mobile web/email client, the iPhone seemed the best option. But it sure doesn't seem like a smart purchase in India.

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkMy next phone is probably going to be a Nokia. After they messed with the menus and buttons on the Sony Ericsson, I might as well switch to Nokia. If I'm going to re-learn the UI, I might as well get a better phone. The N95 looks very sweet. Not sure what the N96 has got, which the N95 doesn't.

So I want to buy it for 200 bucks too, where are you now? [Big Grin]
I am in Atlanta, GA but for a new contract the cost of an 8 GB iPhone is $199 anywhere in the US.

It's not available here at Egypt yet, can I buy it from USA for 200 only, if yes, how?
I don't know how someone living outside the States can get an iPhone. It's probably best to wait till an Egyptian provider releases it there or Apple themselves brings out an unlocked version in Egypt.

Make sure you use one for a few hours before buying it. I don't like the N95 or N96 at all. They are bloated with slow software.

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkThis one from HP is a very good option: HP[^]... There are some mobile phones without keyboard that have a horrible problem: when you are on a call and the electronic voice on the other side is asking you to press some numbers to jump to the right extension, you don't have the touch numbers on the screen... Anyway I own a HTC TOUCH DUAL and I'm happy with that... (but the keyboard is not full QWERTY and this is not great...).

Sorry. The new iPhone can only be sold if you sign the ATT contract in the store at the same time. Breaking it will cost an extra few hundred bucks. $150-200ish if they don't add an additional iPenalties to the standard contract.

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkMy stupid iPhone, the screen goes blank when I start a call, so if I'm asked to enter a number, I can't. I actually have a hell of a time getting my phone to come back on after a call. It sucks.
