    It's not that hard. I used to work on a bank system for home loan applications, the database of which contains personal and financial details of applicants. My test database, which I sometimes took home on a laptop, was nothing less that a slightly out of date copy of the prod database.

                  No, it's not you, and no one is 'getting' sloppy. They have always been sloppy. Several years ago, the Georgia State tax group upgraded their PCs. Yep, sold the old ones for scrap - never wiped the hard drives. There is a web site started by a guy who was amazed at the loss of data. He started listing documented cases of data loss. Dang if I can remember the name, but the losses were STUNNING. And everyone just looks the other way hoping for the best.
