I switched from C# (3 years, before that C++) to VB on my last job, for the last 6 months. In one word, it's the same problems, same solutions, .NET is .NET. So I am really amused when hard-minded C, C++ or C# developers ( I include myself in that group), make fun of VB.NET (it's just a tool as the other languages, and it's not easier or harder than those other languages that so called 'hard' programers use). P.S. C++ RULES :)

I code in c# and vb and both are neat... altho c# has some good points, vb has inline xml and better COM interop... But I still couldn't get the joke... :)

I have no issue with using one over the other & I have no intention of starting a religious war but I prefer C# as I find it to be syntactically more elegant whereas VB feels bloated to me. VB can't help that it's bloated, it just is. Consider

Secondly, Visual Basic is more "bloated" as you put it because it is much closer to the English language. That is something as programmers we are supposed to be working for. The eventual goal is to be able to just tell the computer what to do in plain english, whether it is written or spoken. It is people like you that are so stuck in the past that you can't see the future. The whole reason that the C syntax was designed so much more "elegantly" as you put it, is because when it was created decades ago they didn't have the large amounts of storage space that we have now. Well, now we do. It is the C#, Java, and C++ adherents who are keeping programming back. The C, C#, C++, and Java syntax is so STUPID, as to be unbelievable. Computer programs are supposed to make our lives easier, yet they insist on programming with a syntax that was originally created in the early 70's!
