DotNetNuke is a Holocaust [modified]
-
I installed the runtime only on my office machine on Saturday, and created a usable portal within about an hour. Tonight is my second night at home trying to install the same package to my laptop, i.e. the same platform, yet it is one of the most infuriating experiences I have ever had with software installation. It f*cks ahead and begins creating a database, so it knows where the DB is and can access it, then it blows. Then, because it puked up some database objects on my server, it thinks it's installed, and complains that a certain SP is missing. I mean, FFS, how bad can an install be? Nothing works; Googling the issue reveals only millions of others with the same issue, and no solution in site, unless you are willing to pay, but then I wouldn't have started out using open source. BTW, have you seen the docs for DNN? "This is a CMS. You can add portals, and and modules to portals. Cheers, good fucking bye".

It is now 4:30 am, and I will be finishing my last beer in bed,, happy in the notion I only need start work at 10 am, but so pissed off that my only free time between 2 am and now has been wasted on actually trying to get a good product to work, but with fk ll documentation or support. My next few weeks are dedicated to articles on actually telling people how DNN works, because everyone else is just obsessed with using it to make money. Have a laugh, look at the level of technical info out there on DNN. You'll voluntarily pay me for actually providing some value on that front, without having to pay Wrox.

Formal documentaion is quite limited on DNN. Free software sometimes does not have a lot of able body people to write it for free :) The online DNN documentation is usually more current: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Knowledge/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/Default.aspx[^] Still not quite the depth one might want when first starting with DNN. There is also (not all free, but there is lot of info that is free: http://www.dnncreative.com/Tutorials/tabid/261/Default.aspx[^] And there is: http://www.mitchelsellers.com/tutorials.aspx[^] There were some free video tutorials a while back but I do not remember where they were..
