Totally. The problem is how do you prove any theft. All he really has to do is claim that he will ship the original media and his backups for the software. It would be pretty difficult for organizations such as BSA to purchase all of these laptops. :)

Interesting point. Are you saying that non-transferable means an original license can only be used and must be destroyed upon change of ownership (in this case, hardware)?
I have seen these clauses on some OEM and retail copies. At least online. Not sure about what is or is not covered.

It amazes me how eBay gets by with people pushing pirated software without any action. Not just their part, but it would seem that software companies would hire someone to monitor this and attach those that do the most. Here is an example, this laptop comes with about a $1,000 of software.. There's nothing wrong with selling your license to software and transferring it. I don't understand what you think the guy is doing wrong.

If it really was "Legal" software and not just pirated, then this person has to be one of the most stupid people around as just the Photoshop license would be worth more than double what the machine is worth. Often on eBay, people just grab a copy of pirated software and throw it on a machine they are selling. The harm is that people believe they are buying a machine with legal software only to find out later that they have no offical license to any of it, they legally only have a blank computer with not even an OS.

Have you ever tried to sell ancient equipment? I had an Adaptec 3940 SCSI2 card, and external SCSI2 enclosure, SEVEN SCSI2 hard drives, a SCSI 7-disc CD changer, and half a dozen SCSI CD drives. I couldn't GIVE that stuff away two years ago, so I ended up just throwing it all away. I have at least half a dozen 100mb routers of various lineage, and nobody wants them because GB ethernet is the hot new thing. They'll probably all just end up in the garbage like the SCSI stuff. If the guy can get $112 for his old system, more power to him. Beyond that, anyone stupid enough to fire up a used computer without wiping, reformatting, and reinstalling the OS (especially if it's Windows) is a fool. BTW, the machine he's selling ain't exactly modern by any standard of the definition, so I bet the software is pretty old too. In fact, it sounds like a default half-ass software install. XP, and limited function versions of the real thing (a lot of the same software came on my Compaq about six years ago). So why does anyone here care, and why is it even worth discussing?

How many ports do they have? I'd snagged a cheapo 16port 10/100 switch a year and a half ago for extra ports but it died and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.
