lol +5. I do know Ori means fold (from eating Sushi). Gami must mean paper or something. Beats the heck out of me what towel is.

it is fabric origami. :) which is a general class that includes towel origami and napery (napkin origami). Lost Art of Towel Origami[^] Napkin Folding[^] since origami was a general class of folding, it included all of the above. As fine paper was more of a status symbol in Ancient Japan than cloth, origami tended more towards paper for a time. History is a bit dim here, because cloth origami never really ended, it simply was overshadowed by the paper folding. However as many sites will tell you, sometime in the 1800's it emerged as a status symbol for women when entertaining guests at their houses. In western culture a woman was expected to stay home and decorate the home. Napery at the dinner table and towel origami in the guest room was two forms of expression to show her intelligence and creativity that did not evoke burning at the stake images from ages past. Exactly when and how this came to be, history will not tell you (pity). But cloth origami actually preceded the popularity of paper origami in western (European and American) culture because of this. :-D

Not quite on topic, but I just gotta say... I think it was an old Caldwell cartoon (wish I could find the book) that had the caption: "Oregano -- The ancient Italian art of folding pizza"
