I'd suggest that "your friend" and yourself (who may be one and the same person) take a look at following a different career path.

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

Well, I would suggest what I said to start. If he doesn't know how to do a job, he should not bid on it.

Well, speak for yourself. Forums were created before google, and as such, are, if not redundant, no where near as necessary as they were, say, 15 years ago.

Well, we have forums that are here to help people. But, despite several people pointing this out to you, you're still posting here. We're not here to make any person who knows how to type able to take RAC jobs b/c we do the work. Which is what this smells of to me.

Yes, programming is actually complex, and only a limited group of people can do it well. Most of them do not look for work on Rentacoder.

Those were the days, hogging the telephone line for hours just to read a load of messges from people who knew less than you ... actually it hasn't changed that much really! Now we can receive phone calls at the same time and we can read a lot more of those really useful messages!

Well, back then, the messages were worth the wait. I never had that experience, my dad saw 'war games' and thought if he bought me a modem or an acoustic coupler, that I'd bring about the end of the world.

You should expect more of this in the future, with the advent of online dictionaries and translation tools. BTW, that "CCC of the day" - is it some kind of weird pun at online translation services? :) _
