Just wanted to get opinions/stories from fellow programmers/consultants on Mock-up/Prototyping tools. Being a programmer myself, it was easy to do windows client-based prototypes in VB6.0 or .NET. However, Web-based screens were done in Visio or as core html pages - A little more work. Off late, I have been using iRise and am happy with the results. It has a learning curve though. Feel free to comment on your experience on such tools and how it helped you.

.NET is a rapid prototyping tool.

Visual Studio and Expression Blend. For web work, Adobe Photoshop.

Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.

"iRise"? Seriously, who comes up with these names? It sounds like a company that makes vibrators. //edit I just checked out the page the link points to. Given the way the older gentleman is scoping out the babe on the left, maybe iRise is more appropriate than they thought...

            Buzz-word :)

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

So do you think they used eXtreme Programming techniques to come up with their product? :) Maybe Pair Programming? Then again, maybe they need a more Agile approach...

That explains why everyone on the subway these days is in their own little world and never talks or makes eye contact anymore!

Never tried it but I've heard lots of good things about Balsamiq Mockups[^].

Imagine that you are hired to build a bridge over a river which gets slightly wider every day; sometimes it shrinks but nobody can predict when. Your client provides no concrete or steel, only timber and cut stone (but they won't tell you what kind). The coefficient of gravity changes randomly from hour to hour, as does the viscosity of air. Your only tools are a hacksaw, a chainsaw, a rubber mallet, and a length of rope. Welcome to my world. -Me explaining my job to an engineer

In many cases, this is a good thing.
