maybe you should take a trip to the local food bank where the "poor" can get free foodstuff. Check out the parking lot and see what they're driving. And go inside and see what they're wearing, and tell me that all of them are "hurting". I have done so and not everyone I see is "hurting".

From your phrasing, can I assume that some must be? My kids and I used to spend Thanksgiving mornings delivering Turkey dinners to shut-ins. They were hurting

Yes, but they did not nominate hillary, so clearly, they are sexist...

All I know is that it is a damn good thing for you that Barack is black. No white guy that far to the left would have ever made it this far. Otherwise, oily, you would have been president a long time ago.

Logcally that does not follow. Now if you had said "Apparently less than 50% of the party is not bigoted towards black people specifically, or at least not bigoted enough to outweigh their dislike for Hillary", that would be a different matter. But that would have taken some of the spin off, and spin was your whole purpose wasn't it? For somebody who claims to dislike Fox News, you sure do stick to the Hannity & Colmes playbook.

This is what you are whining about? Not that Obama is playing the race card, but that some pundit is? Now slate is the Democratic party? Sorry I'm not buying into Stan's(and now your) fantasy of a 'leftist' media as an organ of the Democratic party.

Hannity and Colmes both do the same thing, try to get people to concede on some silly statement that they think will validate their whole premise. Oily to a T.

And why would I have said that? We were talking about anti-muslim bigotry, not racism against blacks. Besides that, it's obvious that the crypto-muslim falsehood did not take root in the Democratic party, this is a narrative of the right - and McCain plays into it.

No, not at all. I don't see the two as comparable. Rather that elaborate as to why, I'll let you jump to some more false conclusions - you're so good at that.

Yeah McCain seems to think he can compete... But then again, he basically was a Democrat up until the moment he decided to run for president. Like I said, Dems have used that very successfully, and McCain obviously thinks he can too.

You need to get out more, my friend. There are a whole bunch of people out there, some of them lilly-white, who are hurting. I am not saying that Obama has the answer to anyone's problems (or that McCain does) but I am quite sure that there are a lot of working poor that don't drive SUVs and don't have plasma TVs.

Sure, the plasma TV was an embelishment. But come on, we've been to third world countries, there are damn few people in America that are hurting. And most of those that are, have been for longer than the current mess. The point is most people don't have near as much to bitch about as they do bitch about, and playing to that helps politicians.

Nope. McCain is definitely not a Democrat. I suspect that he is not representative of what's left of the Republican party - even though he tries mightily to pander to them.

I just turned 63, and for as long as I can remember, people (the electorate) have been believing the crap that spews from the mouths of politicians. How people can't see that the pols are buying their votes with their (the people) money (taxes) to me is incredible. And 90% of the time, the pols don't make good on their promises, and never get called on it. We let these leaches take the money from the Social Security Trust Fund to put it in the General Fund and spend it buying more votes. And then we are astounded that Social Security is going broke and no one has the guts to even try and fix it. And Ted Kennedy, of all people, tries to be the "champion" of Social Security, even though he's never so much as paid a dime into SS!! Like every government worker, they are too good to have SS as a retirement vehicle! In short people have a memory span of about 30 seconds, and vote one of two ways --- popularity or with their wallets, based on what direction the economy has taken. I fear our nation cannot last much longer with trillions of debt piling up. Some day those IOUs are going to be coming due ...

You're absolutely right. Congress should be given half of the money it currently gets and not be allowed to spend a penny that they don't already have. They need to clean up their mess, and we need a way to make them. Social Security... I suppose it was necessary when it was created. But what a horrible idea, I can't believe they never thought about the possibility virtual certainty that there would be more people in the future. We need a way to fund it for those that are currently and near getting it. Then it needs to go away. Whatever happened to Bush's nationalized retirement accounts idea? I could deal with the government soaking me for thousands every year against my will if there was a chance in hell I'd get it back some day. As is, it pisses me off every time I get a check stub. I wouldn't mind being taxed a reasonable amount (which would certainly be less than currently) if it were going for things this country needs and if it were being managed responsibly. But right now none of those are happening. I feel bad for those of you who are close to retirement age, many who won't be able to retire. But unless we get things under control, I'm affraid those retiring in 10 years will be even worse off. And I'll never see a dime of Social Security.
