The communist "WorldNet Daily" is your source of information? Good for you. Besides there are many good reasons why the military is limited in its use for civilian matters.

What's wrong with the police, and the national guard? What is he thinking? Regardless of the source it's backed up with quotes and youtube video. Minute 16 has the remark.

I don't know for sure but I suspect he's thinking about improving the functioning of the Homeland Security Department and maybe creating some kind of internship / civilian associate program to supplement it. My parsing of the comment was that he wants to beef up domestic civilian components of the national security infrastructure so the military can focus on its international mission.

You should have attributed the quote to McCain. Let Ed and Oily and Ka commit to it being the second coming of Hitler and then corrected your attribution.

And just what is their "national mission" they can focus on?? I can just imagine the screams we'd be hearing if any REPUBLICAN mentioned anything like this. We'd be hearing "police state", "return to Nazi youth movements", etc, etc. You Dems make me gag with your hypocrisy. Oh, I can hardly wait to start whining for real when this dummy is elected. Jimmy Carter, ove over, your seat as the worst President in history is about to be inmproved by at least one lower than you (and we ain't talkin' Bush, yet, though he might be there too).

Yeah, how stupid can he be. You can plainly see how they so obviously used CG and voice acting in the YouTube video to insert that part.

I'd be willing to bet money that if McCain had said it, you be speculating about how he intended to setup a police state. Complete with colorful intricacies of Rex 84 camps, FEMA death trains and NorthCom deployments. However...

That's pretty much how I took it too. But! It does look suspicious and makes me wonder why they omitted that statement from published transcripts and won't comment on it. :~ [edit] Just noticed somebody else caught the "police state" too. Guess I should have read ahead. [/edit]

Though there are tempting opportunities on occasion, it's not a label I'd like to be saddled with. However, those whom it would be inflicted upon think I'm PURE EVIL just because my perspective leans even a tiny bit to the right. So it's not like I'd be loosing points with them... On the other hand, in truth, they aren't the ones whos points matter to me.

Regardless of his intent for the "security force" I am a bit more troubled by "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." First, why do we need a second military. Second, who is going to pay for this baby. Why is it so hard to find out more about this "plan"?

I am British, I have no allegiance to Democrat or Republican, but it seems to me that you have removed Obama's words from their context, and then speculated on what they might then mean. "We're going to send more college graduates..." Pause "We'll call on Americans to ..." Pause "We will enlist veterans to help ..." Pause "And we're going to also grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." Pause I heard this as Obama indicating that he would seek to use diplomacy and 'good works' (civilian), rather than the military alone, to achieve national security. Thus the "civilian national security force" is the Diplomatic Corps, the Peace Corps, et al, and it should be on an equal footing with the military. Bloody paranoid, the lot of you. :)

This is true. But when the kings and queens of Trolland label you as such, it doesn't count.
