What do you enjoy in programming?

I enjoy being paid hard cash for doing something I find challenging, rewarding and fun - at the same time - and being given the responsibility to make and act on my own descisions. And as shallow as this may sound I also love being able to think "ha, I may earn less than you but at least I enjoy it".

Being able to create something that is my own. Being able to write a piece of decent software and actually say "I wrote this". I also enjoy learning about the language that I'm using and improving my skills.

Really? In this modern world of credit cards and loans, I thought everyone had it figured out. I for one am an expert on spending money that I'm going to earn later. With y'all on the reasons to enjoy programming though.

I'm a total control freak and computers are a little easier to control than people. I don't code professionally for a living...it's just something I got into at a young age really enjoyed cuz a computer (currently) only does what it's told to do. I often think up cool ideas that really interest me....plan it out, write it, fix bugs, optimize it...try and make it more robust and OOD friendly and portable. When i feel the object is taking advantage of everything it can as efficiently as possible I save it to that special part of my hard drive and encrypt it just cuz I can... :) Then later when working on some cool project idea I pull that cool code out and just plug it in... I hate to say it, but I'm actually starting to dislike programming. Sometimes I wish I was doing something else. Like carpenting or something. Sitting behind the monitor all day long does not appeal to me anymore. Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!

I enjoy programming since it allows me to be creative. When I am programming without being allowed to be creative, my enjoyment drops considerably (not rock bottom however). James Drinking In The Sun Forgot Password?
