A recruiter called me today from a call-center in India ( I only guess because of the loud call center environment, harsh heavy accent, lag on the line, and pause between every statement searching for words) who described himself as "Uh... ... John ... Um ... ... Smith" (named changed to protect the guilty. Pathetic. At least be honest.

The name "John Simmons" would have been much more of a fun. Most of the employees in call centers used to go through accent reduction training. So when they change the names it was not very obvious. Now they seem to change the name without changing the accent.

The guy actually chose the name of an extremely famous American comedian to be his name.

We thought John got a new programming job, maybe he moved to India to work in a call center?

The company I used to work for imported cheap car alarms from Taiwan. The quality control staff that tested the alarms had their own QC stickers and invariably they'd have the most bizarre western names - things like Rambo Smith or Penelope Jones.

John Simmons in a call center? I'd pay money to hear that tape. Of course, his "customers" would probably sell their computers and raise chickens...

I don't think yu have that choice in a call center in india. But then, there have been lots of reports that call centers are where the better off, young, technically inclined (at least as much as it correlates wiht ignorance of old people's traditions) indians get together, and it basically a big hookup fest. Say maybe, the "Uhhh... Ummm..." was somethign different :suss:
