Hardware Manufacturer Rant So 2-3 days ago, I got the latest NVidia drivers, so I extract and run the setup, and I notice another installer, called PerformanceDrivers.msi. Now 95% (like me) will think, KICKASS! and install it too. Well, that was a bad move! This rubbish installs some stuff, that mucks around with your power settings in such a way that it sounds like my HDD is actually not just spinning down, but powering off too! Luckily uninstalling the POC, reverted to the previous behavior and my hard drive sounds healthy again! My hypothesis is that perhaps these performance drivers sucks all the watts from other devices to add more wattage to the video card... Rant over!

nVidia core drivers actually includes multiple drivers for 5000 and before, 6000-7000, and 8000 and above. You don't want to play around with the drivers installables as you are more likely to install another card driver on your machine and get bad news. However, if I recall, and I have never tried this, what you have actually done is install the performance monitoring query functions to the drivers, which means you can query real-time performance profiles off your driver for memory, core saturation, bandwidth, texture use, etc. This requires a lot of your CPU use and increases interchange with your drivers. this is not a high performance driver set, but rather, if I recall right, it is performance monitoring. :) However, I could be wrong. If you want a performance driver. what card do you have?
