I don't know because I have no intention of taking away any features of Vista because I happen to like it. I'll leave it up to you to investigate if a dummed down Vista meets your expectations. :)

you mean the renaming bug I still can't reproduce? I recognize you had problems, but either they are fixed, or it was in the version you have. After mentioning the memory stick I had to try, I can manipulate all the files this way and that and every which way without even a peep out of the user security, which has not been turned off here. Everyone repeats bugs from pre-SP1, to even pre-beta. I have seen bugs touted as being part of Vista that were from the Alpha release and still mentioned over and over again like a broken record. I do recognize that many people had problems, but that does not mean that it had more problems than XP at the same time of its release, if anything it has far LESS.

We aren't taking Vista back in time with a timemachine and then have to choose between 2 buggy operating systems, we can choose between an OS that has most bugs ironed out and an OS that chooses looks over performance and some extra bugs as a bonus.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesHeh turning off super useless features was the first thing I have done to Vista. The only thing I like in this OS is a new explorer address bar and a start menu. All the rest is a mediocre copy of XP. Melting HDD with 6 GB of RAM is driving me nuts :/ .

can we choose? or is the choice an illusion? over time hardware manufacturers have stopped making XP drivers. The same "bug" as Vista when it is released is now a "bug" of XP currently! Since Vista is now faster than XP in most situations, and more secure, XP is already "buggy". Oh sure, we have a choice. We can choose Windows 98 and DOS if you want. Microsoft has stopped supporting them, and industry has stopped supporting them because they are much older and harder to support. Windows 7 is not a variant of XP, it is a variant of Vista. It uses Vista kernel, and Vista drivers, for a reason.... XP is now buggier than Vista because XP is no longer supported as "well" as Vista is now. As time goes on Vista will continue to improve as XP improved, and XP will continue to decline. Already complaints are coming in on XP because it no longer gets the attention from industry to Microsoft. It is irrelevant because the choice is an illusion. Waiting for Windows 7 is a marketing illusion that almost every idiot not switched over has fallen fore. "Windows 7 will save the day." "I am waiting for Windows 7" Windows 7 is a marketing ploy that works simply because it is NOT Vista. You hate Vista and Vista is now the current OS, so gee... build a new OS, charge everyone more money and call it Windows 7, and we win all over again.... Wow, they actually fell for it. Microsoft must be tickled pink with all the people who demand to pay again for the OS some of them already have and refuse to use. Great for MS. But WE demanded it.

I have read about ways to do that. Google the feature you want to add to XP using the feature name-space-XP. (aero xp) for example. You may not be able to add all features -- you are working with the XP kernal after all -- but you should be able to add some of them.

Sorry to say I don't think it is possible. In any case I don't know how to do that. It took me a while to get used to the Vista file explorer but now I am OK with it.
