Do you use the cue rest in a game of pool (aka the spastic stick)?

I've been coping a lot of flack in the office about my use of the cue rest when playing pool. What do you reckon, negative man points or a valid tool?
Well, it does take a certain amount of panache to master 'The Zorro' where you fold your left arm behind you back whilst smartly stabbing the cue ball for a perfect pot! :omg: First few goes may rip the table to shreds :-O

Hi, Not using an available tool if you are convinced it would help you would be stupid. I don't play pool, I do play snooker (that's on a much bigger table), and it takes a rest to do so; actually there typically are three different rests, with different lengths and heights, to choose from. :)

It has its place in the game. I will use a mechanical bridge if I am otherwise unable to attempt the shot while keeping at least one foot on the floor.

not sure about pool, but in snooker you MUST keep one foot on the floor - so as an addition to David's post, above, if you cannot do that without a cue rest (its a foul shot) (lets just say Im the product of a mis-spent youth, and a snooker loving dad) 'g'

Of course a valid tool it's not even up for discussion, someone is just having you on because they know they can get away with it. It's not like you can't use it if the table is large enough or you're short enough. Man points have a tao-like quality to them as in "Those who know do not speak; those who speak do not know", the best way I can describe it is if you worry about man points or care about them in any way you automatically have none of them. :)

Ahh.. you didn't say it was competitive that's entirely different, in that case all's fair and they are perfectly within their rights and it really is up to you to not care and more importantly come up with far more annoying things to say to them when it's their shot. :)

I use it only when there's no way to take the shot comfortably otherwise. I try to avoid such situations not because it's uncool or something (it isn't), but because I have much better control when i rest the cue of the back of my hand.

If, after draping your entire body over the table and you can no longer even get a single toe in contact with the floor in order to make a shot, then yes, the cue rest is allowable. Otherwise no. Under no circumstances is the cue rest acceptable on a half size table. The mere appearance of the cue rest in proximity of the table results in instant man-point reductions to all who are present.
