MCTS Exams - why should I even bother?
-
I was considering doing an MCTS exam in BizTalk; you know have the certificate that backs up your several years of experience, I haven't done any MS accreditation stuff for years. So I started a search and found these people Quick Cert Direct[^]. I can't believe it, "completed by proxy" == "cheating" in my eyes. I know people could download test papers; but at least to cheat they had to memorise the answers and something may actually sink in. Surely this behaviour just makes a mockery of any MCTS exam and makes them all worthless. I know if I now see MCTS on a candidates CV, I'll probably dismiss it or request the testing candidate number so I can check for myself...
Q. So why did you do your MSTC BizTalk exam in Bangalore(*)?
A. Errmmm....Arrgghhhh - what is the point. I think I'll go and do Certified Ethical Hacking instead. (*) This was the first random place I could think of...

BizSquawkThe exams themselves are a mockery. I wouldn't waste my money on them. In fact I also actively refuse to take "brainbench" and other online tests. They are ineffective and encourage rampant cheating.

The tests are WRONG! They are a piss poor indicator of one's ability to program and only exists so that the test makers / marketers can make money. Now another company has found a way to make money off the test makers racket and I say good for them.

So would you actually get someone to do aa exam on your behalf just to get a job? The reason I didn't do any more MCP exams was because I found someone in the office with a set of answer papers and thought what was the point. The was supposed to be a big "lets get it sorted" thing going on with MS and exams/certs that are issued in their name, but looks like they have started looking the other way for companies to be so brazen about it.

I think I let my disdain for the tests persuade my good judgment and common sense. No I probably would not hire someone to take it for me. After thinking about it, it is wrong. It is pretty much cheating.

That has been said of most MCP exams since they started. They're called "paper certifications."
