'Vista Capable' case could cost Microsoft $8.5B

I accept that a "Vista Capable"-labelled PC could indeed run a version of Vista, but it was like advertising a "Motorway-capable" car with a top speed of 50 mph - not a lie, but not telling the whole story either. There's lies, damn lies, statistics - and advertising.
But the car would still be Motorway-capable... People are just stupid... Oh no, I bought a nVidia card at 5$ and it won't play Crysis, but it says it can handle 3D!

It would be OK if the car was shown driving really slowly with all the other cars zooming past, but Vista will have been shown with all the bells and whistles and that is what people will therefore expect from it.

Did some J2EE expert design that stuff? I have never had to code so many redundant layers in my life. And, the team that integrated the designer into VS should be shot for a total time of every second it made VS freeze for every single person ever frustrated by it...

Microsoft may have tried to put a little more value on the Basic pc's, but ultimately it's the retailer that sets the consumer selling price and their young, smooth talking salesmen are the ones that are driven by their managers to clear the shelves of them.
