Yeah, none. Keep Windows patches up-to-date, avoid going to risky sites and don't click on anything that makes you suspicious, especially pop-ups and new CODECs. My family and I have followed that policy for years and haven't been infected. Before then, the only spyware (not virus) infections we got on my home computer were when from an iffy music site my teenagers were visiting at the time (and had clicked "OK" in response to a popup) and one when someone hijacked a well known, Pokemon or Nickelodeon site.

i thought that was nortons strategy these days ... be worse than any virus and hog all the resources so a decent virus gives up and doesn't bother :rolleyes:

your own personal use then go with http://www.grisoft.com/ and use the AVG free edition. If someone here bags on it then they don't know how to use it. I can probably answer all of your questions so ask away. So long as it's for your home I'd do a few things. I'd run a free firewall such as ZoneAlarm (free) it's really pretty cool. I am willing to help you with that. I'd also install and run Spybot Search & Destroy. Then just have some good basic browsing practices. Just get Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It comes with 3 user license. and Its best and less resource hungry. I am using it since 2-3 years (version 6.0) and never had any virus problems. I bought version 2009 from amazon.com for $25.00 / 3 users, few days ago. dont even think about norton or mcafee.

Symantec Corporate AV is a completely separate codebase from Norton Home. It's not pretty but is reasonably well behaved (not that I wouldn't still upgrade to avast/avg free if it was my choice), compared to the POS they box for retail.
