Personally I think the sweet spot is 24" (1920x1200) rather than 22" (1680x1050). The prices are probably close enough now that you could choose either without making a big dent in your pocket. As for brands - any of the major ones should be fine. We have a 24" Acer and we've had zero issues with it since we bought it in 2006. Samsung (in particular) and HP also have good reputations for larger monitors.

I'd spring for a better quality 24" over any 22" on the market. AFAIK every 22" out there uses the same panel inside, and TN is crap.

I need to buy a new 22" TFT monitor for software developing. I have to replace my old 17 inches BenQ panel. I will use it just for programming (Visual Studio coding) and I need a panel with clear fonts and suitable for spending many hours in front of it (avoiding eye fatigue). Any ideas? brand/models? Thanks in advance,

I'm using a dell 2009fp (actually, two of them) and it's great. look for high contrast monitors.

I have an HP w2207 22" monitor...it's awesome. I agree with what someone said above though, monitor is one thing that you should spend the $$$ on. There weren't a lot of 24" monitors out there when I bought this one.

I would agree: had an acer 24" (1920x1200) for over a year without any problem and quite inexpensive.

That's probably the same one we have. :)

And me! I've got a Acer 24 inch monitor (1920 x 1200) at home. Been pretty pleased with it. Bought it about 6 months ago for < £200 I think. Mike

Pretty good value isn't it...we paid something like £450 for ours (2006) and Beth has a 19" TFT (4:3) she paid over £800 for a few years ago!

Thank you very much for replaying, Now i dubt on buying a 24" panel instead of my first idea of 22 inches. I will use it only for coding, not for gaming, neither watching movies... Then, 24 inches Samsung better than BenQ ? (I'm very happy with my BenQ monitor) What do you think about it?

I have the impression that it isn't just sometimes, but rather often.

I do try my best, but I've been known to drop the odd howler on occasion. :-\
